A life of travel, performing, and unexpected adventures helped inspire the world of Yuki the Demon Huntress.
Colorado Jones was born and raised in Colorado, USA, but staying in one place was never quite his style. At 18, he left home to see the world and eventually joined the circus, where he learned the art of juggling. That experience marked the beginning of a remarkable career as an entertainer.
For decades, Colorado Jones has performed for audiences around the world. From street performances and festivals to hotel shows, private parties, special events, and television appearances, his career has taken him to places and introduced him to experiences that few people encounter in everyday life.
His love of adventure, however, began long before his travels. At nine years old, while in fourth grade, he received Dungeons & Dragons books for Christmas. Those books helped ignite his imagination and inspired him to begin writing adventure stories. In time, his own life became filled with adventures that could easily have come from the pages of a book.
One particularly unusual experience occurred while he was living in Japan. Colorado Jones believes he may have encountered a Kappa, a mysterious creature from Japanese folklore. Was it really a Kappa? He'll leave that question open to interpretation!
The experience sparked a deeper interest in Japanese yokai, the supernatural beings that appear throughout Japan's legends and traditional stories. As he learned more about these fascinating creatures, he began imagining a character who could encounter them firsthand. That idea eventually developed into Yuki the Demon Huntress, a series of fictional adventures inspired by Japanese folklore and incorporating elements of historical nonfiction.
Through Yuki's adventures, Colorado Jones brings his interest in storytelling, travel, and Japanese legends together in a world of magical crystals, unusual creatures, and demon-hunting adventures.
Why the Name Colorado Jones?
Colorado Jones isn't the name he was given at birth. It's his professional stage name, bestowed upon him by a television crew in Perth, Australia, many years ago. The name stayed with him throughout his performing career and now appears on his books as the author behind Yuki the Demon Huntress.
What Is a Kappa?
A Kappa is a supernatural creature from Japanese folklore, generally classified as a yokai. Often depicted as a strange, water-dwelling being, the Kappa is one of the many fascinating creatures found in Japanese legends.
